Better Health Services (BHS) is a USAID funded 5 year project designed to help support the Ministry of Health through increasing demand and equitable access to quality healthcare services in Cambodia. University Research Co. LLC was awarded the project by USAID in January 2009.
BHS is seeking an appropriately qualified candidate to fill the position of Consultant-Technical Officer (midwife) for Maternal and Newborn Health (for one year) to be based in Battambang Province, with some travel within Cambodia. She will be responsible for defined activities related to improving maternal and newborn health care, including family planning, in the hospitals of this province.This employment is due to the maternity leave of another staff member, and is for one year only.
Duties
- Assume responsibility for defined quality improvement components of maternal, newborn and family planning care in Battambang province.
- Work with all BHS teams to develop and implement these activities in hospitals, health centers, and community-based approaches.
- Provide regular support to BHS staff and MoH midwives, nurses and doctors in the provinces of Battambang, through training, coaching, mentoring, and data gathering of maternal and newborn health and family planning.
- Occasionally also contribute to BHS work in other provinces, notably Kg Speu and Koh Kong.
- When applicable, contribute to activities in child health and nutrition among mothers and children.
- Work closely with the National Reproductive Health program, MCH at PHD and OD levels, and with focal point persons of referral hospitals to plan and implement quality services in maternal and newborn health care and family planning.
- Work with BHS implementation teams at the provincial level to develop linkages with BHS’s partners RHAC and RACHA, as well as with other partners, for follow up of maternal and newborn health activities.
Requirements
- Midwife.
- 5-10 years of work experience in maternal-newborn health and/or family planning.
- Strong program planning and management planning.
- Additional experience in training, mentoring and supervision.
- Experience in program monitoring.
- Computer skills in Microsoft, email and internet.
- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work well with people.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English in addition to fluency in Khmer.
